Characteristics of odorous house ants
Just like other ants, house scent ants are shiny brown or black in color. Their length varies from 1/16 to 1/8 inch. They have 12-segment antennae. Scent ant queens are estimated to live for up to 8 months, while workers can only survive a few weeks or months.
It should be remembered that scent ants are very tenacious creatures. Even after an injury, they will continue to work and reproduce. In addition, they are very resistant to heat and cold. It is therefore difficult to exterminate smelly ants in the house because they leave a smell even after being killed.
Behavior
Odorous house ants are used to developing gigantic colonies with thousands of workers and several queens. Like living and dead insects, these ants are also supplied by honeydew and aphids. If you look closely, the smelly ants end up where you keep candies in your house.
Worker ants travel on trails and sometimes they tend to wander. However, they become fickle if you disturb them and they move quickly with their abdomen up. Usually you can find these ants along tree branches and outdoor sidewalks outside your home and near the edges of carpets indoors.
The nest
In a natural habitat, scent ants live in nests located under woods, stones or the ground. In your home, ants create nests in plant pots, wooded areas, heaters, water pipes or wall cavities.
Prevention
There are several things to do in order to control ant infestations in your home. Regularly inspecting areas where scent ants are creating nests can help control the problem before it becomes troublesome. Try to remove excess debris, wood, bricks, and other things that serve as nesting points for ants. Shrubs and trees near your home should be trimmed regularly to control ant infestations in your home.
All in all, you need to make an effort to keep ants out of your home by following good sanitation practices, spraying pest control products, and sealing cracks on the outside of the house. Observing these steps regularly will certainly reduce the chances of an invasion of odorous house ants in your home.
For the extermination of odorous house ants, success is guaranteed if you hire a well-known company to do the job.
